Our experiences and courses run from April to October at two beautiful Suffolk locations near Woodbridge and Saxmundham.

Step Inside a Working Beehive

Ever wondered what a beekeeper actually does? Put on a bee suit, head to the apiary and discover what is happening inside a real working hive. You will get up close to the bees, see how a colony works, help look for the queen and may even get the chance to hold a frame covered in bees. There is plenty of time to ask questions and find out what day-to-day beekeeping is really like.

Beginner Beekeeping Course

Thinking of Keeping Your Own Bees?

Our one-day beginner course is designed to give you the practical knowledge and confidence to get started. The day combines straightforward theory with plenty of hands-on time at the hives. We cover honey bee biology, hive inspections, essential equipment, seasonal hive management, swarming, colony growth and the basics of honey production and harvesting.

Where Our Beekeeping Courses Take Place

Our beekeeping courses take place at our apiaries in Hasketon, near Woodbridge, and Kelsale, near Saxmundham, giving you the opportunity to learn about bees in a real working beekeeping environment.

Safety Around the Bees

Beekeeping is an outdoor activity, so please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe, sturdy footwear. Bee suits and gloves are provided, but it is a good idea to wear long trousers and clothing that you don’t mind getting a little messy.

Your safety is our priority. Before going into the apiary, we’ll explain how to behave around the bees and how to use the protective equipment provided.

If you have a known allergy to bee stings, please let us know when booking so we can discuss whether the experience is suitable for you.
